Ahmed and Albert are both studying a BTEC National Diploma in IT (Level 3) at the College. They entered the Worldskills Robotino robots challenge and were the only Further Education students among 15 teams which mostly included undergraduates, postgraduates and PhD students. And they took the top prize!
Their challenges involved programming mobile robots to complete an assault course and accomplish various tasks including navigating obstacles and recognising different colours. Their tutor Sanyaade Adekoya said: “I am so pleased for them both as they have been preparing for this all year, coming in to extra sessions outside their normal classes. As the results were announced I was hoping for a medal but to get Gold was incredible. The judges highlighted the reliability of their work and their imaginative approach to the problems.”
CNWL students also ran an ‘augmented reality’ showcase at the event which included a ‘have a go’ experience for visitors, which demonstrated technology in education with interactive touch screens and voice recognition software.
